Tips For Extending The Life Of Your Work Clothes

Posted on: 4 February 2016

For most jobs, it is important for you to look professional while on the clock, and this means having work clothes that are in excellent condition. Unfortunately, work clothing and accessories can be rather expensive to buy, and this makes it important for individuals to get the most from this investment. Sadly, stains are a fairly frequent problem for work pants and shirts to encounter. Luckily, there are a couple of tips that you can use to help protect your work clothes from developing unsightly stains.

Invest In A Fabric Protector

If you are like many other people, you might be unaware of the fact that it is possible to apply a fabrication protector to your work clothes. This substance will form a semi-waterproof layer on the clothes, which will prevent stains from being absorbed by the fabric. When applying a fabric protector, you will want to hang the clothes and spray a thin layer of the chemical over the entire garment. Make sure to do this the night before work as the fabric protector may need a couple of hours to fully dry.

While these substances can be highly effective at preventing stains, it should be noted that you will have to reapply this coat after each wash. The soap in the laundry detergent will weaken and remove this protective layer, but this is a minor inconvenience for reducing the threat of your clothes being ruined by stains.

Always Have A Spot Treatment With You

While fabric protectors can be highly effective at preventing stains, it is always wise to have a spot treatment with you in the event that a spill is able to soak through the fabric protector. These spot treatments are often in a kit about the size of a large marker, and it can be applied directly to the fresh stain followed by rinsing it with a damp cloth. You should be aware that these treatments may contain bleaching agents, and as a result, you will want to get one kit for bleach safe garments and another one that is color safe.

Preventing your work clothes from suffering rapid wear and tear can be a challenging task. Fortunately, understanding these couple of tricks for fighting stains can help you to reduce the chances of this common issue arising. In addition to keeping you looking as good as possible, using a fabric protector and keeping a spot treatment kit on you will also help to keep your work clothing costs as low as possible.
